On April 25, ISIS news agency, Amaq, released a video showing a recent attack on an armored vehicle of the Egyptian military in the Sinai Peninsula.
The video shows a Caiman mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicle getting hit with an improvised explosive device (IED). Despite receiving a direct hit, the vehicle kept moving on.
According to Amaq, the attack took place on April 10 on a road near the al-Fallujah checkpoint west of the city of Rafah in northern Sinai. The results of the attack are unknown.
In the last few weeks, ISIS cells in Sinai intensified their attacks, relying on IEDs to target Egyptian military vehicles and troops. On April 17 and 18 only, several Humvee vehicles were targeted in different parts of the peninsula.
The Egyptian military and security forces are now boosting their operations to counter ISIS cells in the Sinai Peninsula. The ongoing operations are inflicting heavy losses on the terrorist group. Nevertheless, more efforts and time will be needed to contain the threat of the group.
